Expro provides flow back package in Oman with great results
Customer’s problem
Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) had excessive non-productive time (NPT) from the flow back operations which led to a backlog of wells to be cleaned up and put on production.
The maximum rate of gas they were able to flow with the existing flow back systems was 40MMScf/day, and NPT was attributed to operational delays due to choke wash out and tubular erosion.
Expro’s solution
Expro designed a flow back package with Expro’s 15k H2S Sand Traps and 10k H2S severe service manifold with hydraulically controlled adjustable chokes and control valves and a step-down fixed choke leg.
A full technical engineering package and recommended practices complete with guide lines for all the planned gas and oil rates, velocities, temperature, line and choke sizing were considered.
A full SAFE evaluation as well as HAZOP and HAZID were performed.
Results
Eight high pressure wells have been completely cleaned up since August 2007, without any NPT and lost time incidents.
Expro was able to expedite the well clean-up duration from four to two weeks with flowing to the maximum flow rate of 90MMScf/day.
Technologies used
Power Chokes 15K Sand Traps with quick dumping system.
Power Chokes Severe Services SCB Hydraulic Chokes.
Power Chokes Severe Services SCB Positive Chokes.
Power Chokes Command Centre for operating Hydraulic chokes & Hydraulic valves.
Data Acquisition System for continuous monitoring of pressure & Temperatures.
Blast & Wear subs were installed upstream & downstream the flow back manifold.
High Schedule Pipes & Blocks were utilized with continuous checking for wall thickness.
Customer’s quote
An Abraj Energy Services spokesman said: “The equipment was received in good condition and the performance of the full kit was and is still at its best.
“PDO is very happy with all output of the kit. The support from the team was exceptional and highly appreciated.”
